Camille's New Look

After her 3rd birthday, I started noticing Camille's left eye turning in. It seemed to be getting worse and happening more frequently by the day. One day I stopped second-guessing myself and made an appointment with the eye doctor. I mentioned having booked an appt. to my husband, who responded that he too had been observing something unusual with her eyes lately.

Left eye turning

It was torturing me having to wait 6 weeks to get in when my mother's instinct told me something was wrong, so in the meantime a friend referred me to another optometrist and we were called in to his office on a cancellation right away.

The verdict: Camille has two issues with her eyes. For one thing she is far-sighted in both eyes...many children are, but she also has one eye that is much weaker than the other. He showed her several pictures while covering her left eye and she did all right, but could not make out anything with the right eye covered. She kept trying to turn her head to cheat out of the corner of her stronger eye.

I won't lie, it was sad to learn that my little girl who is known for her big, beautiful, expressive, blue eyes now had pretty significant eye problems. We did pick out some sweet little glasses and we have to patch her lazy eye a couple hours each morning...which is not proving easy. She is cooperative about having it on, but can't help tilting her head when using the weak eye...still only looking out the inside corner instead of straight ahead.

There is hope that since we caught this early, she may strengthen her eye enough with patching to correct the turn as well as improve naturally in her overall vision and she may be able to graduate from glasses after 3 or 4 years, but time will tell. Either way, she is super cute!
