Like Hockey?

People in our new town live and breathe hockey.  No joke.  Many professional players come from here, including the previous owner of our new house.  I can't say that we are huge fans, nor do our kids play organized hockey, but we will take in the Olympics or Stanley Cup if it's on.  My boys have a passion for playing street hockey with friends (if the number of dents in the garage door at our old house is any indication) and were thrilled about the hockey aspect of their new hometown.  Imagine their excitement when this took place just in front of our house 2 weeks after we moved in:

The Qubec Major Junior League team, the Remparts, hosted a game against our  neighbor boy's team right on the street.

The team bus parked across the street and the stage was just in front of that.

Griffen got to wear his new Boston Bruins jersey for the first time that day.

It turns out that our neighbor across the street, a little guy named Jerome, won a big contest that brings the city's young hockey stars to your street for an old-fashioned game.  They had a sound system with all the music and other audio that you hear at a real game.  It was -6 degrees Farenheit that afternoon, but nothing would have kept my children inside.  It was the highlight of the weekend for them.  At least one famous face from the NHL was in the crowd that day.  Hall of Famer, Patrick Roy, was in the house.  The major junior teams provide many of the NHL teams their young superstars, think Sydney Crosby and Marc-Andre Fleury, so they play at a pretty high level and are fun to watch.
