While my husband and I are enthusiastic about going out and exploring our surroundings this winter, some days are just meant to be spent at home.
Two Sundays ago, the kids were hoping to convince us to take them sledding. We had already spent all of Saturday afternoon ice skating, so Pierre and I felt this day called for an easygoing afternoon around the house.
We encouraged the kids to get dressed up and go play in the yard, but of course that wasn't as appealing to them. Eventually, we told them they had to go out and get some energy out, leaving them no choice in the matter. Aren't we brutal?
Well, that was all it took. They got a plan underway and started a tunnel, Christian began at one end of the yard and Gabrielle was working from the other.
Hours went by on the clock as they progressed on their project and they only came in for the occasional warm up (throwing snow clothes in the dryer for a few minutes or downing a cup of hot chocolate) and then, they were gone again. The best part is that they were working as a team, something that can be hard, but very important for brothers and sisters.
As day turned to night, the kids were still going strong as they welcomed the addition of Griffen (who was inside doing homework until that point) to the project. After dinner, they asked to borrow some flashlights and that provided a neat lighting effect.
These three were quite happy with the results of all their hard work and the tunnel would provide many more hours of entertainment over the following days (and weeks). Yes, we live in a cool, northern climate and the igloo is still intact two weeks after the fact.
Especially love the lighted tunner. When we were young in Winnipeg, we used to build giant forts...too much fun.
